Holiday Fiesta! Live Music!

Holiday Fiesta! Live Music!

In sincere gratitude for a year of joy, community and support from all of you, this Saturday we are throwing a little fiesta at Living Threads. We will be open from 11-7 with an ever-unfolding offering of treats throughout the day. From gorgeous gift wrapping to morning Biscottifrom the Bread Shop and coffee from Iconik to a selection of empanadas from Sabor Peruano in the evening. Plus a splash of spirits, both bubbly and biting, and even homemade cookies for palette delighting.

To crown our celebration, from sunset until the stars are in full twinkle, we’ll fill the house with the sonorous, soul-soothing sounds of Soroche, our favorite Peruvian band, in its full five-person glory. From the flute sounds of the high Andes to the groove of tropical cumbia, Living Threads will hum with all manner of deliciousness.  A campfire out front and cozy warmth inside, we invite you, one and all, to gather around the goodness with us this Saturday.

We can’t wait to see you!

The World Hope Fundraiser is a special forum to celebrate creative diversity & the International Folk Art Market, and there will be a rich diversity of presenters from 9-2:30 PM Santa Fe time that we highly recommend listening to! But most, most, most of all (and this is pure and justifiable bias!) we recommend listening to our own Teresa Robinson, co-founder and the aesthetic wizard of Living Threads Studio. She will speak about how her work with artisans, textiles, beauty, community and Living Threads Studio all came to be for her.  Teresa will be on from 11:40-12.

Fire and Clay, The Wisdom of Oaxacan Pottery Talk

Eric spent the majority of his 20’s and 30’s fully immersed in the worlds of indigenous potters in southern Mexico. “Doing back porch work” as he says, slow and easy conversations with people who understand the world through more ancient rhythms. In the silent spaces between their words, the potters showed Eric what life looks like in a place where the accumulated knowledge of the ancestors is actively heeded. What arises is a kind of deep functionality and wise equilibrium in the ways of making and doing. While ancient, rural, and seated in clay, this wisdom is applicable to all of us, everywhere.

SANTA FE LITERARY FESTIVAL/ IFAM

Fire and Clay: The Art of Oaxacan Pottery
Eric spent the decade of his twenties immersed in rural Mexico and sleuthing out every village in Oaxaca he could find that made pottery. Each and every one of them were ancient fiefdoms of clay, most of which were completely unknown to the outside world. From that era, the book arose. The book takes a deep, insightful and sensitive look at how the pottery is made and the impressive ancient wisdom that goes into every aspect of its creation, from functionality to environmental equilibrium.
